We were traveling home today from West Virginia, having visited my parents who just moved there to accept a pastorate. Just outside of Columbus, Ohio, we hit major snow and were forced to a stop. As we slowly proceeded up, we encountered at least 20 accidents in the stretch of about two miles. The road and visibility conditions were such that we decided to get off and break for lunch while we waited to see if the road and weather conditions improved.
We ate our lunch at a McDonald's right off the exit and waited a while to see if the weather would improve. After we finished, we were getting ready to get going again when a lady approached my wife. She told me wife that she had been watching our family eat and felt very impressed and burdened by the Lord to come over and give us $20.00. She said that she did not want to be offensive and did not even know if we needed it, but felt very strongly that the Lord wanted her to give us the money. She said that she had heard we were traveling through the area in this bad weather and she wanted to be sure that we had some money in case something happened that we could not get home. She was crying the entire time she spoke with my wife. My wife told her that we were believers and that her gesture was of incredible blessing to us. She said that she would not, could not refuse her gift since the Lord had so given her that burden and she communicated what a blessing it was to us.
We left then and got back on the road.
As I was thinking about this, it reminded me that God knows all things. He knows where we are, and what our needs our. Had we visited any other McDonald's, this encounter would not have happened and yet, God watches and knows all things. He knows our exact location at all times and He brings people into contact with each other to minister, bless, encourage, and serve each other. God brought us together for a purpose. If nothing else, to remind me how He works. To remind me that He watches and sees all things, including our hearts.
Shortly after we got back on, we reached another dead standstill and decided to get off and spend the night in a hotel. The weather was so bad that a county wide warning had been issued and people were being advised to stay off the road. As I write this, I am sitting in a hotel room just outside of Columbus. The money that the woman gave to us will to toward feeding us dinner.
